We had such a wonderful time playing together next year, and we look forward to drumming together during the 2014-2015 school year!

MAY 1st PERFORMANCE!

Performance time: 6:45-7:00(ish)

Place: The stage in the GIS Multi-purpose room

Students should probably arrive around 6:35 to set up the instruments on the stage.

This performance is a part of the GIS Cultural Arts Night, so there will be student performances through the evening until about 8:00. This is NOT mandatory, so please don’t stress if your student cannot make it. In addition, Mrs. Tucker will be displaying student art all around the building, and every student will have at least one piece of art displayed. After the guitar club performance, be sure to mosey around the building and check out all of the awesome things that the students of GIS have created this year!

SIGN-UP SHEETS ARE HEADED HOME NEXT WEEK!!!!

Dear Parents of 5th and 6th grade Students,

I am extremely excited to share with you a new musical opportunity for your children. As you may be aware, the GIS music department was fortunate enough to receive a grant last spring that has allowed us to acquire a brand new set of world percussion instruments. In music class, students have been focusing on a specific country and culture’s musical traditions as they’ve learned to play a variety of these instruments. Beginning in February, GIS’s new performing ensemble, “One World Drummers” is an extra chance for students to gather together explore music from a many of countries and learn to play more instruments and more intricate rhythms and songs. Students do not need any former training or experience (besides what we’ve worked on in class) on these instruments to participate!

This group will meet once a week after school on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:15. This ensemble is limited to 25 students. On the reverse side of this letter is a “One World Drummers” registration form. Students who wish to participate should bring the completed form back to Mrs. Hartman as soon as possible as spots in this group will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. After all 25 spots have been filled, Mrs. Hartman will create a secondary list in case any spots open up throughout the year. Please note that as spots are limited, students who participate should try to attend rehearsals as often as possible. It would be a shame for a spot to be taken by someone who rarely attends. If you have any questions concerning this group, please feel free to e-mail me at Ehartman@granvilleschools.org.

I am excited to announce that this year, students will have the opportunity to participate in a new performing ensemble focused on playing a variety world percussion instruments and performing authentic music from cultures all around the world. Stay tuned for more information about how students can sign up for and participate in GIS’s new One World Drumming Ensemble!
